FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about how our programs work, who qualifies, and what to expect - for owners, managers, and utility program partners.

What does Sequera Solutions do?
Sequera Solutions is a multifamily energy-efficiency consulting and project management company. We help Texas apartment owners and management companies identify, qualify for, coordinate, and manage utility-backed upgrades - smart thermostat program management, HVAC upgrade planning, and utility incentive consulting - with minimal disruption to residents and onsite teams. We handle qualification, documentation, scheduling, project oversight, and closeout, and we coordinate with licensed contractors and qualified installation partners for any regulated trade work.
Who do you work with?
Apartment owners, property management companies, regional and area supervisors, contractors, and utility program partners. If you own or manage multifamily communities in Texas, or you administer a utility program that needs reliable on-the-ground project coordination, we can help.
What areas do you serve?
We serve multifamily communities across Texas, including the Oncor and AEP Texas service territories. Our work centers on the Dallas-Fort Worth metro and extends to markets such as Waco, Tyler, Abilene, Corpus Christi, San Angelo, and the Midland-Odessa area.
Is the smart thermostat program really no-cost?
For qualifying multifamily communities in participating utility territories, the smart thermostat upgrade is funded through the utility's energy-efficiency program, so there is no equipment or installation cost to the property. Eligibility depends on factors such as property type, metering, and current equipment. Our smart thermostat program is run through our FreeStatUpgrade program brand - we confirm eligibility before any work begins.
How do I know if my property qualifies?
Qualification usually comes down to a few things: whether the community is existing multifamily, whether units are individually metered, the current heating and cooling equipment, and whether the property sits in a participating utility territory. The fastest way to find out is to request a property review - we verify eligibility before recommending anything.
Will this disrupt my residents?
Minimizing disruption is the point of how we work. We provide resident notices in advance, build an install schedule around the community, and complete unit work efficiently. Clear communication is what keeps an occupied-unit project calm for residents and onsite staff.
What is the difference between Sequera Solutions and FreeStatUpgrade.com?
Sequera Solutions is the parent company - an energy-efficiency consulting and project management firm. FreeStatUpgrade.com is our smart thermostat program brand - the no-cost thermostat upgrade offer for qualifying Texas apartment communities. Sequera Solutions is broader: it also covers HVAC upgrade planning and full utility incentive consulting.
Are you affiliated with Oncor or AEP Texas?
No. Sequera Solutions is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Oncor, AEP Texas, or any utility. We work within their published energy-efficiency programs as a service provider on behalf of property owners and managers.
Do you handle the HVAC work too?
We handle the planning and coordination, not the licensed trade work. For aging multifamily systems we provide HVAC upgrade planning - system evaluations, replacement scoping, equipment guidance, proposals, and scheduling - and we coordinate the actual installation with licensed contractors and qualified installation partners. Sequera Solutions is a consulting and project management company, not a licensed HVAC contractor. We keep the scope professional and practical and do not overpromise on savings.
What does utility incentive project management include?
Property qualification, utility territory verification, documentation, incentive paperwork support, installation tracking, and final reporting. In short: we manage the parts of an incentive project that consume staff time and where mistakes cost approvals.
How long does a typical project take?
It depends on the community's size, the scope of work, and program timelines. A thermostat program on a mid-size community moves faster than a full HVAC retrofit. After the property review and onsite inspection, we can give you a realistic schedule rather than a generic estimate.
What do you need from our onsite team?
Very little. We need basic property information to start, access to sample units for inspection, and a maintenance contact for coordination. From scheduling through closeout, we carry the coordination load so your team can stay focused on operations.
Do you provide documentation for closeout?
Yes. We document each unit as work is completed - including photos where needed - and compile a clean closeout package with the paperwork the program and ownership require. Organized documentation is part of the deliverable, not an afterthought.
Do you replace thermostats in common areas and maintenance offices?
Where the program terms allow it, extra thermostats can be provided for maintenance areas and common spaces in addition to resident units. We confirm what is included when we review the specific program a community qualifies for.
Is there a warranty on the thermostats?
Where the program terms provide it, installed thermostats carry a manufacturer or program warranty - commonly a two-year term. We confirm the exact warranty that applies to your community's program during qualification.
How do we get started?
Request a property review. Tell us the property address, unit count, and the best onsite contact, and we will confirm your utility territory, review eligibility, and recommend the right starting point - whether that is a thermostat program, an HVAC retrofit, or a broader incentive project.
